  10. SUBJECT: MGT - Skills inventory by the Radio Officer

  12.      There are times that an inventory of RACES member skills can
  13. be helpful to the Radio Officer.  Here are the skill codes we
  14. have developed for our communications volunteers in government
  15. service:
  16.  
  17. A    Administration: supervision, management or administrative
  18.      assistant
  19. C    Consultant, technician, engineer, installer, sysop or remote
  20.      sysop
  21. D    Digital and/or computer, including disc preparation
  22. F    Field responder
  23. G    Go-fer, Messenger
  24. H    OES Headquarters operating experience
  25. L    Liaison, as with CAP, MARS, Highway Patrol, State Police,
  26.      Forestry, others...
  27. N    Net Control Experience on HF
  28. P    Photographer
  29. R    Radio Officer
  30. S    Secretarial, clerical
  31. T    ATV and or related video skills
  32. V    VIP enrolled and trained in CDF VIP amateur radio unit
  33. W    Work party and/or tower climbing
  34. Z    Commercial type Drivers License

  36.      The data came from an enrollment form which lists interest
  37. areas ranging from 1 to 10.  They are sorted on the computer into
  38. meaningful rosters.  Letter designators are used as members have
  39. multiple skills or areas of interest.  This assures the interests
  40. of each individual is met, as well as provides a quick reference.
  41. In a recent situation heavy-rig drivers were needed in the fire
  42. division of OES.  A quick check of the RACES roster found three
  43. such drivers.  Two were contacted, and assigned to the fire
  44. division.  While that was not a radio operation, they filled a
  45. need that utilized their skills and were pleased to be called for
  46. their assignment.  That this occurred was due to the interest and
  47. skill of a RACES Coordinator who involves RACES members in any
  48. conceivable situation that their skills can be effectively uti-
  49. lized.  While this may not be applicable to your situation, use it
